Our history
CEPAC , the Campaign for an Ealing Performance & Arts Centre, is the operating name of Ealing Performance & Arts Centre. It was set up in July 2010 as Ealing Arts Centre Ltd, a non-profit private company limited by guarantee with no share capital. It began with an Ealing Council grant to prepare a business plan, which was submitted in October 2010. Its object was to develop and present a plan for an arts facility in the Town Hall.
After the Council decided not to pursue this plan, EAC reviewed its targets to be more in line with the views of its Scrutiny Arts Panel. This had recommended that the Council should act as a facilitator and enabler rather than as a principal in the arts field. EAC recognised that it needed to change its objectives to campaign for the provision of facilities elsewhere in the town centre, and not be solely concerned with the Town Hall. |
It therefore changed its name and clarified its activities by adopting the CEPAC campaign title. It remains committed to the idea of a multi-purpose auditorium suitable for larger events such as concerts, dance and comedy as well as conferences. This would be a key element in enhancing the attraction of the town centre as a cultural and leisure “destination” for the whole sub-region as well as the borough, and contribute to its revitalisation in line with the London Plan and the Central Ealing Neighbourhood Plan.
